Banana agua fesca or agua de platano is one of the most delicious beverages ever. If you like banana smoothies then you will surely like this agua fresca.
There’s nothing better than this on a hot summer day. Plus kids love it too!
Bananas aren’t a favorite of mine. I think they shine best in smoothies, shakes and other kinds of beverages. One of my favorites is licuado de platano or banana milkshake. You have to give it a try!
I usually prefer fruits that are juicy like mangoes and watermelon. The texture of bananas is not particularly pleasant for me and I know I’m not alone on that.
But let me tell you bananas are absolutely magnificent in an agua fresca. It becomes refreshing and you don’t have to deal with that awful texture.
This banana agua fresca is very simple to make. It’s an excellent way to use up ripe bananas before they go bad. We always seem to have bananas just on the verge of rotting.
I hate throwing food away so I usually slice them up and freeze them to use for smoothies later. However this is currently my favorite use for bananas.
The only downside to banana agua fresca is that you have to drink it the same day it’s made. Just like when making banana smoothies it will eventually turn brown.
But we usually drink it up way before it has a chance to turn brown.
You may not have to add any sugar to the agua depending on how ripe the bananas are. However I always do add a little sugar. I like mine sweet especially because I like to serve mine over ice so it tends to become a little diluted if I don’t drink it fast enough.

Ingredients
- 4bananaspeeled and sliced
- 1cinnamon stick
- 6cupswater
- 4cupsmilk
- 1tablespoonvanilla
- sugar to taste
Instructions
- Put the sliced bananas, cinnamon stick, and 4 cups of water in a blender and blend for 1 minute.
- Add remaining 2 cups of water, milk, and vanilla. stir.
- Chill or serve over ice.
